Each month we check in with one of our partners to hear what's new at their company. But, this month, when connecting with Lime partner, BMO Financial Group, we thought we'd check in with one of our Network members who interned there to see how his summer went. Nick Adams, Georgetown '15, and Lime Connect Fellow, gives us the scoop on his summer in Chicago...
I just returned from Chicago where I was interning for BMO as a Summer Compliance Analyst in their Personal and Commercial US Banking Division. The internship was incredible, and I was given the opportunity to partake both in a variety of projects and assignments at work, as well as several community events sponsored by BMO outside of normal business hours.
The culture of the firm is amazing - with a steadfast dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, an obvious focus on providing unparalleled opportunity for employees to grow and learn in their roles, and a truly amazing commitment to giving back to the communities and organizations they serve. I have never felt more included in a team, more valued for my opinion and work, more supported by junior and senior members alike, or more proud of an organization for their devotion to corporate responsibility.
I would wholeheartedly recommend that anyone interested in banking apply for the BMO Student Internship Program because of just how committed the bank is to developing talent and fostering growth in knowledge of both the organization and the industry as a whole.
During the program, I worked on federal and corporate Fair Lending, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Freddie Mac, and Consumer Risk assessments, reported on Mortgage Policy Updates, and completed competitive analyses of lending rates across the industry. Outside of work, I volunteered with BMO during their all employee volunteer day, helped plan a Blackhawks auction to benefit the Special Olympics, walked with BMO in the Chicago Pride Parade, and was a member of the BMO Dragon Boat Racing Team in a charity event for literacy.
Overall, it was an incredible opportunity which gave me detailed exposure to ethics and legal compliance issues across the banking industry, a broader understanding of how banks operate and make decisions, and an unprecedented chance to learn more about BMO's values, culture, and focus on providing exceptional service to their customers.
