Following the Course
There are several ways that riders will be able to follow the courses (10-Mile, 30-Mile, Metric Century, Century). The courses will be marked at intersections with signage. Police and volunteer course marshals will monitor many intersections and guide riders throughout the course. All riders will be provided with written cue sheets, which has turn by turn directions, and the link to the GPS course download, which can be used with the 'ridewithgps' app on their phone.
Aid stations stocked with water, Gatorade, and sugary/salty snacks will be positioned every 15-20 miles along the course. First aid services and basic mechanical support will be available at all aid stations. Restrooms or porta-johns will be available at all aid stations. The Century riders will have five opportunities for aid, the Metric Century riders will have three opportunities for aid, the 30-Mile riders will have two opportunities for aid.
SAG (Support and Gear)
Athletes will also be supported with SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles along the course. Each SAG will offer basic first aid and basic mechanical support to athletes. SAGs will also transport athletes that miss cut off times. Additionally, three SAG teams will travel on bike along the W&OD.
Water and Gatorade will be available after the ride. Coyote Grille of Fairfax, VA will supply the post-ride meal. Food will be available to riders and volunteers free of charge. Spectators may purchase food.
