Why did you decide to apply for the Lime Connect Pathways Scholarship?
I first learned of the Pathways Scholarship through an online scholarship database. I decided to apply to help finance the cost of my non-tuition related costs at Yale.
The Pathways Scholarship was extremely helpful to my family. There were immense costs of moving and attending a university so far from my home in Georgia. This scholarship allowed me to cover the cost of books and moving to a completely new town.
What do you plan to do after college?
While in college, my ideal internship would be working on Capitol Hill as a congressional intern. After that, I aspire to work in a role that allows me to have direct, visible, change in the lives of the people around me. My dream job would be getting elected as President of the United States.
What are you looking forward to as a new Lime Network member?
I am looking forward to having a resource for learning about navigating the professional world, especially with a disability. While I will absolutely love reading the Constitution or examining political trends for school, I'm particularly excited to learn more about navigating the professional world through Lime Connect.
What advice or thoughts would you give to someone thinking of applying for the scholarship?
For anyone considering applying, please don’t limit yourself because you think you will never get it. I never expected to win this scholarship because, too often, I discounted my own abilities. Taking a chance to recognize your own skill is just as important as your resume or qualifications.
Do you have a message for the Lime Connect Century Ride riders and fundraisers who helped fund the Pathways Scholarship?
I would like to say thank you to every person who helped raise money for the Pathways Scholarship. We may never meet, but you had a direct impact on my future. Thank you for your willingness to take a chance on people who too often are never given a chance.
